• Running outdated or vulnerable versions of name server software
• Running name servers on hosts that haven't been hardened against attack
• Running name server configurations that are vulnerable to spoofing and denial of service attacks
• Placing all authoritative name servers for a zone on a single subnet, or behind a single router or leased line
• Relying on a single forwarder for Internet name resolution
