NetID users have a good choice

Nortel discontinues support for NetID

This year IP Address Domain Manager (also known as NetID) has not been available for purchase from Nortel Networks or their resellers, and the product is no longer supported by the manufacturer.

Where does that leave NetID customers?
Men & Mice recommends that current users of the NetID product consider their migration option to a new, supported IP Address Management (IPAM) solution.

The Men & Mice Suite, a non-intrusive, comprehensive IP address management solutions should be a strong candidate for the job.

We encourage every NetID user to spend time on evaluating Men & Mice Suite when looking at their options.   This is also a good opportunity to take a big-picture look at architecture design.

Are you employing DNS Best Practices?
The good news is that it doesn’t require pulling the plug on your whole network.

What does a zero-downtime migration look like?
Best practice dictates that security begins with smart design.  Men & Mice consultants have a wealth of experience performing platform migrations, most often from first-generation appliance solutions to UNIX/BIND, Windows, or hybrid combination architectures.

While performing the migration, our team simultaneously integrates an organization’s current-state and future-state DNS infrastructure into one managed system, entirely mitigating the risk of production system impact.    In other words, both the new system and the old system are up and running at the same time, both managed through one central unified console.  When the time comes to go live on the new system, it is a non-event.

So what now?
Again, for NetID users this is the perfect opportunity to take a serious look at the long term.  Migrating to a new solution does not have to be painful, nor does it have to mean network outages.  Through Best Practice design and sensible, deliberate execution an organization can easily make their DNS architecture secure, reliable and scalable.
