Error message: RPC server is unavailable

This error message might indicate one of two problems.

• Men & Mice DNS Server Controller is not installed correctly.
• MS DNS is not installed.

Look for a file named 'dnscmd.exe' in the following directory:
{Windows}\System32\dns\qdns

Replace {Windows} with the location of your Windows directory. It's usually either C:\WinNT or C:\Windows.

If the file isn't there, try reinstalling Men & Mice DNS Server Controller. If that doesn't fix it, contact us for assistance.

If the file is there, try executing this command at the command prompt:
{Windows}\System32\dns\qdns\dnscmd /info

The result might look something like this:

Info query failed.
Status = 1722 (0x000006ba)

Command failed: RPC_S_SERVER_UNAVAILABLE 1722 (000006ba)

If you get this error message, then MS DNS is not installed correctly. You must fix this yourself.
