Details

The Men & Mice Suite consists of three types of components: Men & Mice Management Console and other interfaces, Men & Mice Central, and Men & Mice DNS Server Controller. Minimum system requirements can be found below.

Men & Mice User Interfaces

There are three different user interfaces for the Men & Mice Suite. Multiple copies of each may be installed, and several copies can be logged in at once to manage your servers. Each interface connects to Men & Mice Central at port 1231/TCP.

• Men & Mice Management Console
  The main user interface of the Suite. Initial setup of the Suite (after software installation) must be performed with this interface. The Management Console can be installed on any machine on your network that meets the minimum system requirements.
  
  
• Men & Mice Command Line Interface (CLI)
  Has most of the editing features of the Management Console. It is ideal for scripting and batch jobs, as well as situations where a command line interface is required.
  
  
• Men & Mice Web Application
  Divided into management templates, or sub-interfaces. Four templates are installed by default; these can be customized, and more can be created as needed.

Men & Mice Central:

Provides central user authentication and meta-data storage for the Suite. It also acts as a gateway between the user interface and DNS and DHCP servers. Central can be installed on any available server on your network - it does not need to be installed on a DNS or DHCP server. Only one instance of Central should be installed. Central connects to the DNS Server Controller on port 1337/TCP, it connects to the DHCP Server controller on port 4151/TCP and listens for connections from user interfaces on port 1231/TCP.

Men & Mice DNS Server Controller:

The agent software that manages a DNS server on your behalf. A copy must be installed on each DNS server machine, except in Active Directory environments, where a copy should be installed on just one DC in each application partition or domain. The DNS Server Controller listens for connections from Central on port 1337/TCP.

Men & Mice DHCP Server Controller:

The agent software that manages one or more DHCP servers on your behalf. For Microsoft DHCP a copy can be installed on each DHCP Server or under certain circumstances it can be installed on another server and connect to the DHCP service over the network. For ISC DHCP a copy should be installed on each DHCP server.  The DHCP Server Controller listens for connections from Central on port 4151/TCP.
